Curiosity :) I wanted to discover new things and meet new friends.
Now I see cellular automata everywhere! And I loved how through the class I was more and more “comfortable” trying new mediums (pen, paper, sketching a lot!, brainstorming etc.) and consciously trying to move to simpler and simpler rules/ideas in order to come up with more complex results.
Another nice thing was to reflect a lot into my own work, how I came up with those ideas and looking back to them with a fresh perspective for the future.
PD: I also want to buy a microscope 🤘
Maybe a bit more collaboration between us. I understand it’s difficult with timing/schedules/work but that would have been nice to try. Maybe trying it during the class itself so it’s not like a homework assignment but maybe a brainstorming in pairs and then present it to the rest of the group or something like that.
Pairing people who work in completely different mediums will produce some magic.
Maybe gdrive is not the best, perhaps something like notion would be better for next time.
I particularly liked the first two homeworks. I enjoyed a lot the sketching and brainstorming + looking for references. Integrating my own ideas and thoughts with the concept and simplicity of CA is something that changed the way I perceive my own work. Even though I sometimes applied some of this concepts, now I feel like I can unlock new possibilities by consciously starting with simple rules/agents, not only from an artistic point of view but also from a coding perspective.
The best memory each week was definitely the brainstorming - sketching.
The third lecture was a bit long to me, it was hard to follow after a long 3hs session.
On the fourth I loved to see through the microscope.
During the first sessions sometimes some of us were cut while sharing the homeworks, maybe there wasn’t enough time for us all to share.
Creative: First week playing with negative space and changing figures and colors on the go.
Lost: Trying to make the tarot homework. It was hard to get started and to do something different that the example we saw on the lecture.
People! And the practice of brainstorming-sketching simple stuff and trying new mediums away from the computer.
Deconstructed: Overthinking complexity.
